Gary M. Spadaro - President

Gary Michael Spadaro is a self-proclaimed “lab rat” having been involved in the dental laboratory industry since diapers. Spadaro’s father opened a lab in their cellar in 1975, preparing Gary at an early age for the job that would become his passion.

A 1991 graduate of Herkimer County Community College in New York State, he obtained his AAS degree in Business Administration. Spadaro continued his education at Siena College, also in New York State, graduating in 1994 with a BS in Marketing Management. After his graduation from Siena, Spadaro joined his father at Liberty Dental Laboratory in Schenectady, New York.

In the late 1990s, while fully on board at Liberty, Spadaro wrote and presented a seminar titled “Boot Camp Marketing for Small to Medium Sized Dental Labs” at Vision 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Spadaro also spoke for LMT Live. For the past six years, Spadaro has served on the Board of Directors for the Dental Laboratory Association of the State of New York (D.L.A.N.Y). Currently, he holds the position of President and has been working hard to take DLANY, and the dental lab industry in an innovative direction.

Spadaro is a vibrant, youthful, and dynamic member of NADL who focuses on the dental laboratory industry’s bright future. He sees ample opportunity for dental technicians and dental laboratory owners to maintain a decent standard of living, in an industry we can all be proud of. Spadaro looks forward, with fresh enthusiasm and energy, to putting his efforts forth in our industry.

Norm Friedman, CDT

Norm Friedman, CDT - Treasurer

Norm Friedman is the owner and founder of Crown Dental Laboratory in Kingston, New York. After training at the New York School of Mechanical Dentistry, he apprenticed at a laboratory in Poughkeepsie, New York. Norm served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart. His wartime disability necessitated a career that would help keep him off his feet.

Dental technology is a field that is satisfying to him and Norm has grown to be an adept technician. His lab, which has been in operation for over 27 years, now employs five technicians. Norm earned his Certified Dental Technician certification in 1982, and continues to keep up with current technologies through continuing education opportunities.

Norm and his lovely wife Ruthie reside in Stone Ridge, New York. They have raised two daughters: Alyssa, a registered dental hygienist; and Tracy, currently a college student and part-time delivery person for the lab. He has served as the Fire Chief in the local Volunteer Fire Company, and is currently the Treasurer of the Dental Laboratory Association of New York.

Norm would like to see the dental technician recognized as an integral part of the dental rehabilitation team. With the technician and dentist working more closely together, a better product is produced for the dental patient.
